Mark
I agree with all you wrote below and feel the same way about rolls versus sheets. I like to print them one at a time and look over every single print carefully before printing another.

  Steadman,

I know you're kidding, but honestly, I *do* feel differently when I'm
printing on single sheets than when I'm using roll paper. I like
the whole process of walking over there and separating the
interleaving sheets from the printing paper each time, and then
  force-feeding into the 7000.

When I use rolls, it feels like I'm "a company". Or a service
bureau. It's a different feeling. I kinda feel like I'm cheating when i
  use roll paper.

It seems almost silly to mention it, but when I saw that ad in
Lenswork about "Hand pulled Gravures" I thought the same
thing -- I thought, "Well, hell, I hand-pull my inkjet prints just like
this guy does. But the word for my process just isn't as
  romantic-sounding as his".

And even sillier to mention is the sheer fact that in the art/gallery
world, some of these linguistic things probably have an actual
impact. And so, to me, the sooner that we all can alter this
connotation about inkjet, the better off we'll all be.

So all the original hand pulled carbon pigment prints we print exchangers are collecting are really going to be worth something someday!
After all, we are pioneers in the new technology. And so far we have about a hundred and twenty five original prints! We'll be rich. (after
we're dead, of course)! ;) :)

[Digital BW] Re: Hand Pulled Prints

2002-03-01 by culturalvisions

My prints are not only hand-pulled, but hand fed. Who would of
thought that breaking the sheet feeder on my 2000P by trying to feed
overly thick paper through it would lead to such a marketing bonus.

Plus I am finally one up on my friend who has been selling his
hand-pulled photogravures for years.

Seriously folks, a printers guild isn't a bad idea.

Send me US$40.00 and I'll send you a complete membership kit for the Print
Ink Squinters Society. Members receive an impressive gilt-edge certificate,
a lapel pin, mouse pad, window decal and rubber stamp that reads "Vintage
PISS Print."

I chuckled when I read about the "hand fed" (visions of a prize calf) (and I also snickered at the "free range")...

Good to see some humor in the group...
