getting posterization with OPM

getting posterization with OPM

2003-11-03 by Antara Scales

Hi,
I have been using the profiles from here and the ones included
in the OPM for the 2200. While printing somes nudes with lots of
subtle skin gradations I noticed posterization.
Has it been there before and I didn't notice? I don't know.
It is especially prominent with the Neutral . If I need linearization,
can someone direct me to a tutorial. Sepia is fine. Printing B&W
with all the inks with epson driver is also fine.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Antara

Antara,

my first thought would be that the profile doesn't match your particular
printer/paper combo. The best approach is to use IJC and make a profile
fine-tuned to your particulars. Also, make sure you use the updated version of
OPM with the bug fixes for the 2200 (write to bowhaus if in doubt).

In any case, a much improved version is about to be introduced for Mac OS X,
at which point you may consider making your own profiles anyway, rather
than relying on the ones that users like myself have made public in recent
months.

Antonis

Antonius,
I am using the "neutral" profile, that I believe you placed in the
files, with EEM on the 2200, Ultrachrome +matteblack. And it
happens to a lesser extent with other profiles, not with Sepia tho.
I can't afford IJC just yet.
Thought I had the latest version but will check again. It is a bit
"buggy".
Have you tried the neutral with subtle shadings? I like the "color".
Any help would be appreciated.
