Which catridge for B/O 2100 Eboni Prints

Which catridge for B/O 2100 Eboni Prints

2003-11-30 by ms.photolists

Having read Clayton's articles about B/O printing on the 2100/2200 I have
tried quite a few experiments and have to say I like the results I am
getting. I have been using the Matte Black ink and get rather a warm tone.

I would like to try the MIS Eboni black which I understand is a bit more
neutral but I am a bit confused as to which cartridge to order. The
reference to Ebony black on the MIS web site is Light Black Position - Eboni
Matte Black 100% ARC-T0347-QUT - $10.95 but surly I need one for the Black
position?

Could someone/Clayton please give me the exact order number. Thanks.

Martin

I just called MIS and ordered it so I do not know the order # (in fact
that's what Clayton told me too!). It does indeed give less warm, yet
still slightly warm prints, than the Epson black cart. Gorgeous
actually. I like a little warmth. As Clayton may have mentioned, the
good news is these will not warm/fade any more from the print-out
stage. I also was printing BO with my 870 using an MIS Full Spectrum
Neutral black cart. These printed even less warm than the Eboni but
they do warm from there, quite considerably if not under glass. I'm
anxiously awaiting Clayton's tests using Museum black from (Cone
Editions) in his 200 for BO prints. Supposedly this is even less warm
than Eboni. I like warmth but also like more neutrality at times for
certain images too. I hope these two inks will provide me with a nice
"switching" method for warm and cool, or less warm BO printing with my
2200.

I tried the Museum Black and found it to be the same color as Eboni,
so there's no advantage in using it. So much for that idea. I don't
know why that other print looked cooler - maybe because it was from a
7500 or something...

It looks like our choices are Eboni and Matte Black. The Matte makes
a very pretty image if you want a warm print, and it's Dmax seems as
good as Eboni, so I think we have two good options. Eboni seems to be
as cool as we're going to get and I agree, it really is pretty.

With the better resolution from the 2200 I'm getting the best prints
ever. I'm a happy camper.

Regards,
Clayton

Was it printed on a different paper? I have a bunch of Brightcupe
Eclipse that I bought from Inkjetmall and it prints much cooler than any
other paper I've tried.

I asked Steve and he said it wasn't Eclipse. He thinks it was the
double sided EEM. My print is on EAM (I'm still working on a large
batch I bought last year), so maybe that's it. He also said that the
ink he loaded in the cart is from the same batch he used to make the
print, so it's probably the paper.

Hello Clayton,

Thanks for sharing your results. Oh well, it's not as if I'm
dissatisfied in any way with the Eboni black, just was hoping for a
cooler or more neutral alternative as well. Have you tried the
Septone black for BO, or know if that's any cooler?

The Matte black is nice too but too warm for what I want usually. For
warm prints I might actually consider using MIS FS-N black (I think FS
and FS-N black are the same, no?). Although it would take some time to
warm up I am finding some images I printed not too long ago warming to
a very pleasing tone with this ink. It's not immediate and would have
to mostly be for personal use but may be an alternative as well.

Richard

Hello Richard,

I haven't bought the ink, but looking at the 100% patch on the Tech
print it looks very much like Matte Black.

Only problem there is that eventually it fades as well. I have some
FS prints approaching 22 months old that have noticably faded. I'm
sticking with Eboni.

Clayton
