Digital BW, The Print

Just unpacked me epson and followed instructions meticulously  but 
carriage wouild'nt move enough to open ink lid and would not power 
out when I pushed the power button only way to power down is to 
unplug. . . . and when I push the ink button hoping for the carriage 
to move enough to open tray nothing happens
what now ?

Maybe the print head is still taped...

-dont see any tape looking in the top
