So what to buy for UT UT2's

So what to buy for UT UT2's

2003-12-10 by martinshakeshaft

I am a bit confused. I asked a question about what the difference
was between the 1270/1280/1290/1290s was and was told that for UT's
the best bet is a 1270/1280 BUT these printers are no longer
available in the UK. I have tried ebay but nothing
doing...........so the big question is what options are available to
someone wanting to go the MIS UT route if they do not work with any
current printers?

Help!!!!

The 1290 is, I'm told, a 1280 with a different driver. I think the 1280
driver will work with it (at least for PCs). Then the 1280 UT curves should
work.

I though another forum member had mentioned that he was going to try this.

Re: So what to buy for UT UT2's

Yep, that was me. I have the 1280 driver and 2 1290 printers
(currently both running on the 1290 driver) so I have the luxury of
comparing workflows.
However, if I'm going to do this, I will try it first on the UT2s. I
still have about 1/4 bottle of UTs left.

Any idea when the UT2s & workflow will become available?

Kind regards

Steve

Steve,

No. I'm pushing MIS as best I can. Calls from potential customers asking
for it might also help. I'm giving a short talk 12/20 to a genealogy
society where I intend to recommend the C82 or 1280 with UT-2 for their
work. So, I've told MIS they might miss some business if the inks aren't at
least in bulk by then.

If you have the 1280 driver and UT running in a 1290, why not try that combo
to see if it works well?

Paul,

As anxious as I am to get started with a dedicated B&W 1280 and your
ink/workflow process, what I've read thus far leads me to believe that
UT2's are not only easier to use than the original UT, but better in
terms of Dmax, longevity and performance on a wider variety of papers.

I'd rather not spend $56 on the original UT's for these reasons...

(maybe you should have kept a lid on the UT-2 project until they were
ready for sale!)

Thanks always, though. It's great having people like you in the world.

mike
i think the original UT is more or less the same as
UT-2 with a different mix. i don't think UT-2 is any
more light stable, its just a different formulation
for a different printing method. now UTs compared to
VMs and so forth, you are right-the VM and Full
Spectrum etc. are not as light stable as UTs.
