upgrading Photoshop, and profiles

upgrading Photoshop, and profiles

2003-12-20 by johngeyles

Forgive me if this is too far off-topic...

I've upgraded from Photoshop 6 (on OS9) to Photoshop CS (on OSX).
I understand that in CS you need to use "Print with Preview" to
specify a profile. But the list of profiles seems to be much shorter
than the list available under PS6. For example, there is none for
Premium SemiGloss (maybe because I have matte-black installed, but
PS6 still shows me the SemiGloss ones). And some after-market ones
I downloaded awhile back don't appear at all.

Maybe I need to copy them from where PS6 keeps them to where
CS keeps them ? Are profiles compatible across versions of PS ?
Do I need to "install" them into PS-CS somehow ?

(This is all trying to use the Epson driver).

Thanks, John

P.S. Even more off-topic ... I want to print color on Ilford Smooth Pearl.
What's a good profile to use for that ? Or PCM settings ?

The answer to this goes with your previous question regarding the 2200
manual. What you need to do is launch the OS X "Printer Setup Utility"
(or the "Print Center" if you're not yet using Panther) and "Delete"
the 2200 from the printer list; then put whichever black ink you want
in the printer and "Add" the 2200 (with whichever features you want --
roll paper etc. -- specified in the pop-up menu). When you re-launch
Photoshop (and you must quit and re-launch) the profiles specific to
the ink in the printer will appear in the "Print with Preview" dialog.
Sorry, but it's a kludge.

Only the profiles for the PK ink will appear when the PK ink is installed
and vice versa with the matt (MK) ink cartridge. The other profiles you had
need to be in Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles.

You don¹t need to go through this process anymore. They should be supported
now (I have no problems swapping).
