Various Print Sprays

2004-01-09 by Don

I have been reading with interest about the Premier Art Print Spray
and other sprays.

Do these sprays say they have a particular finish? I notice that both
Krylon and Windsor and Newton Acrylic sprays come in either a matte or
a glossy finish. When using sprays like this on Epson Semigloss or on
PermaJet Oyster 271 does it matter which finish you use? Does the
Premier Art Spray have a designated finish?

thanks for any advice.

The PremierArt spray gives the smoothest finish and is not overly
glossy. Best of the bunch that I've tried so far.

Don,

No, they seem to be sold more as protection coatings as opposed to something
that will give any particular finish.

They are similar to the B72 sprays. The one of these that I found to be the
best value was Grumbacher "Tuffilm Final Fixative." It is labeled as
"Gloss," but is sold as a, "Final fixative for Pastel, Charcoal, and
Pencil."

I would think one goal of a product like this would be that it not affect
the image. The beneficial effect on the RC image in significantly reducing
the reflective differentials ("bronzing" etc.) is just a nice byproduct of
giving the paper and pigs a uniform surface.

It might be interesting to see what a matte finish did on an RC print.
