glossy/7960 - matte/2200

2004-01-17 by edrudolpho

Hi all... new user here, and also new to B&W digital printing.

From what I've read so far, the HP7960 does best with glossy
b&w and the 2200 does best with matte paper.

Is this true? In other words, can you get a decent glossy b&w
print from the 2200 or a decent matte print from the 7960?

thanks for any info

Depends on your definition of "matte". As far as the HP goes, you
can get great results on their matte paper, but the HP Premium Plus
paper with matte finish is not what most people on this list would think
of as a "matte" finish. It's really a surface more akin to Kodak's "E"
Lustre surface, an RC type feeling paper with a textured finish. Now if
you use a paper like Photorag or HWM, something with a real "matte"
finish in the HP, it does a decent enough job, but the ink is not
archival and who knows how long it will be stable for.
As far as the 2200 goes, I have seen top notch results on matte
papers, but I don't really have any first hand experience with glossy
papers and that printer. Someone else will likely comment on that.

Thanks,
Ed
