UltratoneiInks clogging badly

UltratoneiInks clogging badly

2004-02-02 by Peter A. Klein

I have an Epson 1280. I recently switched from the MIS VM inks to
the Ultratone inks. Since then, I've had terrible clogging
problems. The yellow position (lightest gray) is the worst--it clogs
so that on the nozzle check, the last 1/3 of the bottom line
of "yellow" does not show. This has been a periodic issue with this
printer since I went B&W.

The last couple of weeks, ALL the color nozzles have been erratic.
Last week all but the yellow cleared with a couple of cleaning
cycles, and I could print with almost invisible banding.

This week the color nozzles wouldn't clear until I put the Epson
color inks back in the printer. At which point all but the yellow
cleared immediately. I'm going to just print color for a while and
see what happens.

I print mostly on weekends, but I try to turn the printer on and off
midweek. Any thoughts? I've already tried the Windex/Fantasik
tricks.

Thanks,
--Peter

Are you refilling your own cartridges? or just buying pre-filled ones?

I just started refilling my own UT-2 cartridges in my 1280 and have had
a tough time getting clean nozzle checks. I'm convinced that it's an
air/foam issue though, not clogging (I get clean nozzle checks when I
put in an Epson OEM color cartridge).

I'm going to wait a couple more days for the ink in the cartridge to
"settle down" before trying to refill again.

Re: [Digital BW] UltratoneiInks clogging badly

2004-02-02 by Harry Saddler

I'm having exactly the same problem. I had a conversation with MIS
about this last week. Their analysis is that it's clogging, not an "air
break" or other flow problem. Apparently, it's possible to get clogs in
the nozzles that go into the cart, and inside the head -- not just in
the individual jets (which could explain why sometimes a whole color
goes missing for me sometimes). Their suggestion was to try their new
cleaning fluid (see
http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/accessory.html) on the
parking pad, where it will wick up into the head. I've got this on
order, and will let you know what happens.
