Purging Inks

I am currently working with an Epson 2200. When switching from Epson
photo black ink to Epson matte black is it necessary to
"purge" the inks? What is purging and when and why should you do it?
There is nothing on the Epson website but have been hearing the term
a lot.

thanks.

No. After you change the carts the printer will do a cleaning cycle
and that's all it needs. The main thing is not to let it sit long
without a cartridge. There is the instruction in the book about
opening the driver settings and make sure the new ink is recognized.
In my experience this hasn't been necessary, but it doesn't hurt to
check.
