Finally I'm back on the trail to a new printer

Finally I'm back on the trail to a new printer

2004-02-28 by awahlster

I have been trying to stretch my budget to the Epson 1280 to use with
MIS UT-2 ink set but I really don't have a need of an A3 printer is
there any 6 ink A4 Epsons that will work the same as the 1280 with
slider adjustable tones?? So I guess the question is: Is there a A4
version of the 1280 that will work with the 1280 UT-2 inkset?

Thanks Mark W.

The 890 should work with the UT2 inkset. It is said to be just like the
1280 except for being smaller. The printer is still sold new in Europe, and
in the U.S. they are usually available refurbished for $129 at Epson. See
their web site "Clearance center."

Has anyone else had any trouble with horizontal banding using the UT-2 on the 890? I just setup my 890 with UT-2, and there are distinct lines across the print.
I'm using the Roark curves and EEM paper. I've even tried Epson luster paper to see how it would look. I've tried choosing different paper selections in the printer, since it lays down different amounts of ink, depending on the paper selection. No difference.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm cetenly no expert but I remember some one asking about this on
the Photo.net group (talking about a different model) and it ended up
being assosiated with the print resolution being set at 300dpi as the
epsons dither (is that what I want to say?) on multiples of 180 dpi
so if you can try a setting of 360dpi it might clear it up. It did
for the guy on the other forum.

Re: [Digital BW] Finally I'm back on the trail to a new printer

2004-02-29 by awahlster

Steve are you using the same carts as the 1280? Or are you using bulk?

I checked out the 890 and the specs look very very close to the 1280
with the exception of being an A4 printer. But when I checked the ink
sets they are the same for the black but a different epson number for
color.

If I can get this cleared up I think I'll try the 890 as the price is
well within my budget. And since the wife decided for me an A4
printer would be plenty big enough I gusee it will LOL.

Mark;

The other possibility if it is still available, is the recent stylus
photo 900-it is essentially the 1280 cut down to A4 size, but it
uses both of the 1280 carts, not the smaller 890 color cart. It will
also print on CDs and has dual paper paths, so it might work better
with thick papers. The down side is we have gotten almost no
feedback about the machine, and now it has been replaced already. It
also was more expensive than a refurbed 890-$200.00 new I believe.

Re: [Digital BW] Finally I'm back on the trail to a new printer

Mark,
I'm using the MIS carts for the 890. The Eboni cart is identical to the one for the 1280 (same part number), but the color cart is a different number.
As to your other post, I'm printing at 1440 or 2880. I even tried 720 after reading your post. Doesn't help.
I don't get the banding on my 2200. But I'm not running a dedicated B&W set on it, so of course I can't get a neutral black with the Epson Ultrachrome inkset.
I got the 890 so I could do dedicated B&W printing with various tones (UT-2). Disappointing so far.
Any ideas folks?
Steve

Steve are you using the same carts as the 1280? Or are you using bulk?

I checked out the 890 and the specs look very very close to the 1280
with the exception of being an A4 printer. But when I checked the ink
sets they are the same for the black but a different epson number for
  color.

If I can get this cleared up I think I'll try the 890 as the price is
well within my budget. And since the wife decided for me an A4
printer would be plenty big enough I gusee it will LOL.
