Recommendations for Epson 3000

2004-03-10 by glennrbarry

Hi All,

I've got an Epson 3000 that I want to convert to B&W, I've been
reading at the polls and the ink descriptions at the MIS site, but am
a little confused. I notice from the poll that the MIS Variable Mix
is the most poopular. Can anyone tell me how well it works with the
3000.

any and all tips, opinions and advice appreciated

Also has anyone used i.e compiled Roy Harringtons QuadTone RIP under
SGI Irix?

Thanks

Glenn

I used my 3000 with the VM-S inkset for quite a while and was pleased, at
least with the large display prints. I stopped using the standard VM inkset
with the 3000 quite early.

Recently I updated the MIS inksets with the Ultra Tone (UT) versions. This
ink is much more lightfast. The MIS UT inkset is very similar to the MIS
VM. I did make curves for the 3000 and the UT inkset, but to be honest,
they are not all that smooth. I think for display prints they may be OK,
but not for small snapshots.

I also updated the FS and FS-N inkset with UT inks. So there is a new UT-FS
(warm) and UT-FSN (neutral). I also did some new curves for the 3000 and
these inksets. They turned out considerably better than the UT
curves/inkset combination. If you can live with a monotone inkset, I'd
recommend either the UT-FS or the UT-FSN with the 3000.
