UT2 and UT7 - printer support - Paul?

UT2 and UT7 - printer support - Paul?

2004-03-15 by scrber

Just a couple of questions.

I am still waiting on the 4000 to use with UT2 inks (now UT7
right...?). I just checked the MIS site and could find no reference
to any refill kits for the 7600/9600 family of carts (which I
understand are the same for the 4000). Will we be able to buy the
UT7 as a cartridge refil kit, in full carts, or only as bulk ink?

Secondly, the delay to the 4000 has scuppered my plans to hold off on
the next big batch of prints I have to do (150 8x10 plus...). I am
therefore left with my 2 Espon 1290 printers and UT2. I remember
Paul saying that there were plans to update the curves to the 1290
printer. Has this been done yet?

Kind regards
Steve

Steve,

Me too.

>to use with UT2 inks (now UT7 right...?).

Yes. Under the assumption that all the UltraChrome printers will be able to
use the same inkset, MIS decided to call the 2200 inkset "UT7" (for seven
ink positions -- never mind that the 4000 has 8).

I'm not sure. There is a 7600 in beta with the UT7 inkset, but I'm not sure
how it was filled. (It's not mine.)

There are no new curves yet for the 1290. Some use the UT2 inkset and the
1280 curves with the 1290. Some work fine, but with darker midtones than my
target densities. Some of the curves don't work well at all. The 1290
turns out to have more differences from the 1280 than we'd hoped for.
PermaJet may want a modified inkset for it, but that is undecided as of now.

As to your need to pump out prints, if you have the UT2 inkset in a 1290 you
might find that existing curves, perhaps with a bit of offsetting done in
Photoshop, will work fine.
