I'm curious; do believe the photography is the "finest" because of the exotic and unusual locations and subjects, or is there something about the "photography" itself, ie; composition, lighting, etc.

I personally find it interesting, but I just see good photographs of some interesting subjects. Am I missing something??

  Hello All,

This is not Ansel and has nothing to do with BW printing, but I had to
share this - it is some of the finest photography I've ever seen.

Sorry for the OT but I think you won't shoot me after you have seen
  it.

Best Regards to all the forum,
  Clayton

I'm not Clayton but I too found Sergi Maxmishin's work to be excellent.

I'm not sure it is possible to answer your question.
A book that might help is John Szarkowski's, Looking at Photographs.

Re: [Digital BW] Not Ansel

Hello John,

>I'm curious; do believe the photography is the "finest" because of
the exotic and unusual locations and subjects, or is there something
about the "photography" itself, ie; composition, lighting, etc.

I was blown away by the impact of his work. Composition and lighting
in particular on the technical side, but also his instincts,
compassion, sense of timing, humor, emotional impact. Is like Bresson
Erwit and Salgado rolled up together in color. Touched me very
deeply.

I love photography, been doing it since age 8, and spend a lot of time
looking at other's work, both on line and in my library of books
purchased over the years. I like and appreciate many types of work,
from street shots to fine art landscape by the masters to Karsh
portraiture to Diana kitsch in Shots magazine. I prefer BW over color
(most color work bores me) but this trancends that and is simply some
of the best photography I've ever seen. I spent over two hours last
night viewing the entire web site, and the impact of it continued to
grow on me. I went back this morning for another look. Great stuff.
I rank him among the best.

Regards,
Clayton
