Eboni Black in 7600

Eboni Black in 7600

2004-04-18 by Eric Brooks

Hi,

Does MIS Eboni Black in an Epson 7600 allow printing on both glossy and matte paper without swapping out inks. I am currently using ImagePrint with the Epson UC inkset and matte black on primarily EEM and PR. I have found posts stating that Eboni works great for replacing Epson matte black, but will it also allow me to use Semi Gloss and Semi Matte?

Are there any down sides to using MIS Eboni over Epson UC blacks?

Thanks,
Eric Brooks

Eric,

No. Eboni is very much like Epson UC Matte black, except not as warm. It
is matte-paper compatible only. It will rub off of glossy paper unless
sprayed with a fixative.

It is the Ultra Tone 2 (for 1280) and UT7 (for 2200 and probably 7600) that
allow printing on glossy paper with the Eboni installed. However, it is the
use of the 2 dark gray inks that make the good glossy black, not the Eboni.
The Eboni black is cut out of the mix when glossy paper is used.

Paul: I'm curious about this part of your response:

"and UT7 (for 2200 and probably 7600)"

Should I take that as meaning that it's possible that UT7 will not be configured
for the 7600/9600? That would be a shame.

Anything is possible. Considering that the UT7 has been so slow to get to
market, I don't have a 7600, and the beta 7600 has had some problems, it's
possible the next generation will be ready before the 7600 UT7 is done.
