Thanks Tyler. I'll search the archives. One thing though, if profiles are
mainly for correcting colour prints then why are there so many for the Piezo
system? I am about to start printing with the MIS VM inks and was just
curious about getting profiles for different papers with that inkset.

Thanks,
Colin.

The Piezo profiles are entirely different from normal color profiles, are proprietory, and can only be used with the Piezo
driver. They are made differently from the get go, not with normal color profiling procedures as far as I can tell. They also
contain (to an unknown extent) the tonal adjustment necessary to separate the inks into their most useful tonal areas to
eliminate dots. I know how I have made them in the past, and they required considerable editing to work in the separation
curves, but that doesn't mean I know how Cone makes them.
The lack of color doesn't mean profiling every paper is unnecessary. Profiles correct for dot gain and other problems
unique to each paper. People comment they don't understand why many of the profiles seem to print the same, it's
irrelevant. Rather than try every existing profile with a new paper to see if one works well visually, it's less time consuming
and success is more likely by simply profiling the new paper to make sure it's technically correct, for a wide variety of
images.
Any muddier?

Most definitely :)
