MIS Ink Sample - Follow Up

MIS Ink Sample - Follow Up

2001-10-17 by Colin Anderson

Hi,

In case anyone's interested *grin*, I received some lovely examples from
Paul Roark and Peter O'Reilly of the MIS VM inkset. On the basis of these I
have bought an 1160 and NMC CIS (from MWORDS, excellent packaging Nij) and
am eagerly awaiting delivery of the inkset.

Does anyone have any tips for good papers to use with the VM inks?

Cheers,
Colin.

Epson Archival Matte and several Hahnemuhle papers (which I buy from Media
Street, see the files for Anotonis' paper data base for their branded
equivalents), Museo.

Really depends on what you like. If you have experience with Piezo, good
Piezo papers also make for good MIS VM papers.

Colin

Those are just some that I like, but here really are many. A lot of people
like Somerset Enhanced, Eclipse Satin, and many more. It can be very
confusing and daunting. You need to get a sample pack or two to begin with
just to narrow down what you don't like. Once you get a feel for how "white"
a paper you like, and how much texture, then you can get fussy and nit pick
between similar papers. But you won't go wrong with any that I mentioned.

Enjoy

Colin,

I hope the VM inkset works as good for you as it has for me. Nothing is
perfect, of course.

>... bought an 1160 ...

You're lucky to have found one.

>Does anyone have any tips for good papers to use with the VM inks?

Be sure to try Epson Archival Matte -- a standard smooth surface image to
compare others to; Legion Photo Matte -- very cool paper tone. I'm
beginning to think the medium warm curve with this paper is an interesting
combination; Eclipse Satine -- favored by many; Museo -- some texture and
non-yellowing paper; and Somerset Enhanced -- some texture and a warm look
that is great for reproducing old photos with the warmth people like in
those. You can get somewhat better results with a transfer function profile
I have for this one.

Enjoy.
