Hello, having seen the comparision I checked again my 1160 prints made with the original UT1 inks. The thing is that under a 7x magnifying glass its obvious that in the darker shades the dot pattern (dither) of the 1160 is not that fine, however the way it is laid down on the paper surface makes it look somehow very smooth, and in certain cases better than hte prints of my 1290 which replaced the 1160. On matte this is not an issue, both are very good there, but on semigloss it becomes visible. In any case the 1160 is a cheap, easy to handle (no cartridge chips) and (in my experience) reliable printer that gives excellent (!) results on both matte and semigloss. Anyone who can get one new, should not worry for quality, the 1160 delivers it. Bernie

Are you set up to do a QTR UT print on the 2200? That would settle it I guess. Also, what do you think it is about the 1160/VM combination that makes it so smooth? VM only has black and three grey shades, same as UT, right? -= mike =-
