Adobe has Photoshop CS for $299 for those who own Photoshop Elements. Here: http://www.adobe.com/store/products/special.jhtml?id=catMicrotek&sourcecode=112300

Only if you have an OEM version of Elements that came bundled with hardware. You can't buy Elements for $99 and then upgrade it for $299. Hi. Have you guys ever downloaded files from eDonkey.com or Overnet.com? You can get just about any software program for free off of those web sites. It takes a little bit of work on your part to get the programs right but it is worth it. I pulled in my copy of PhotoShop 7 at no cost. It work perfectly. You just can't register it with Adobe or get support. It is to complicated to go into it here in this email, but if there is any interest I will dig up my old email with the instructions I used to do it properly. Let me know and I will post it. I won't be able to do it till this week end if anyone is interested. Charlie Dennis

You do realize, don't you, that you just admitted in a public forum, which
may well be monitored by software companies like Adobe (not to mention the
Feds), that you steal software?
We don't encourage or even discuss stealing software in this group, and
besides, it's probably against Yahoo policy as well.

I did not know that. But I also follow the strict rules on the web site and use it for in home personal work and do not sell my work or promote it. It is for personal work only within my family at home. I am not suggesting that you use it for commercial proposes. It states that as a rule on the web site. Read carefully the rules and regulations on how you use it. Do not use it or download it if you can not live within the limitations that are stated on the site. The illegal part comes in where the user over steps the use granted by the law. I am not promoting that use or for commercial use these or any software's. These have been placed in the public arena and you must use you head about what you intend to do with it. I have never sold this information or forwarded anything on any program to any one. The site is listed on the web and there for anyone to do a search and find. What you do with it is up to the individual person that finds the site. I am sorry if I offended anyone in the forum and it was not my intention to do so. If I have violated and rules governing this forum and the people that subscribe to it, I will upon your request withdraw my membership. I will wait for more feed back, and again I apologize. I also have bought and paid for retail PhotoShop for the Mac, PhotoShop LE, PhotoShop, Elements PC and the upgrades for all products. I also own and have paid retail for Illustrator and upgrades and adobe type Manager Mac. In the past ten years it is safe to say I have purchased over ten thousand dollars of imaging and page make up software from the major software manufactures. Charlie

Did you see my apology and email? Thank you for your feed back and I will if it is the wish of the forum resign my membership if it is their wish. As that I do not use this in my work if you all would like me to destroy the copy I have I will before resigning from your group. I do this because one I do not use or need it because I prefer to use the copy of PhotoShop ELEMENTS THAT IS BOUGHT AND PAID FOR RETAIL. It is much easier to use for the simple work I do at home. You do realize, don't you, that you just admitted in a public forum, which
may well be monitored by software companies like Adobe (not to mention the
Feds), that you steal software?
We don't encourage or even discuss stealing software in this group, and
besides, it's probably against Yahoo policy as well.

Paul, No this is not a joke. I use a laptop from my be that has Susan's name on it. I use it because I am disabled and bed bound. I do not have the use of my legs any more and can not get to the desk top computer on the other side of the room that use to be mine. Being disabled and on disability has its limitations and forces you use what you can to survive and create a life where there is none. It is with hope that you create something to do with yourself that gives you something to live for. A joke I don't think so, I have suffered all of my adult life with painful chronic illness that has left me permanently disabled. I wake ever day and find something in it to do that gives me a life. I am very sensitive to other peoples problems and suffering to a fault. You may find me funny but I pray each day to make God give me the pain of others so they do not have to suffer themselves. You may find this funny but I do not and take it very seriously. You do not know me and I do not know you but it is clear to me you do not think me sincere in my words to you and the others in the forum. I am sorry that you think I am a joke, I would never make such an assumption about you or anyone that I did not know. I have spent 30 years in this industry and am proud of the knowledge that I have gained and shared with others, artist and business people in all walks of life. Again I sincerely apologies to you for offending you and appearing as a joke to you. I do extend to you personally to visit me and we can have an exchange of ideas and knowledge so your judgement of me as a peson will be better informed. After all I am not much of a threat being disabled. Charlie

John, You should try living with her! We just celebrated our 23rd anniversary last weekend. She is a saint and takes care of me every day because I am disabled. It is nice to know that when some says I do to all those vows so long ago has the integrity and principles in their life to make the love they started with last through the "in sickness" part a reality. Most people as I can tell do not have the guts or the strength to tough it out and make it work the way they commit to in their vows. My strength flows from hers. When I almost died 3 years ago it was her strength that kept me alive and able to help me survive al the thing that came after. Have you ever cared for anyone that was disabled? You might under stand what she has to go through each day. I am sorry this seams like a soap to most of you but it was not intended. So I won't bother you any more. Thank you for allowing me to sit in on a few of your conversations. I wish everyone good heath and success with the work they do. Charlie

Charlie, The suspicion and "joke" comes from the other e-mails from "Susan" telling about the "free" software, and then her subsequent denial.saying she had nothing to do with all this. It's just very confusing since they are the same e-mail addy. Maybe you should talk to Susan...... John

You don't have to leave or anything--we're actually pretty good-natured here. As to your e-mail address, it's not too hard to change the name that gets tacked onto your address--since you use Outlook, it's under Tools->Accounts->Properties. If you swap back and forth between machines, perhaps changing the friendly name to "Susan and Charlie Dennis" would be a good idea. Anyway, if you're into B&W, this is the place to be, so feel free to join in the discussion. -- Ciao, Paul D. DeRocco Paul mailto:pderocco@...

Paul thank you for your comments. As to B&W it has been the only thing I have shot since I was 12 years old. I am 52 now and lucky to be here. I have worked in the medium all of that time both as a photographer and printer. I have worked in printing, managing and exploring the new technologies and the traditional work procedures for over thirty years. I have worked with the famous and the not so famous artists and photographers bringing their life's work to their audiences. From fine prints to coffee table books and catalogs of their work. I was experimenting 30 years ago with quadtones on litho presses when most of the world did not even know what a duotone or quadtone was. I had the first Mac that ever was shipped into the State of Michigan and wrote my own software to run postscript composed pages before there were any IP or page layout programs for those machines to make them do what we wanted out of them. We wrote the language programs need to produce fully composed films 28 x 40" off Scitex plotters and image setters using 300 line screens with dots so fine you had a hard time finding them with a loupe. We also designed color programs for 40" process cameras driven by our home made black boxes and home grown software created by us. These programs were all done before there was anything thereto buy out off the can. Many of these things that I was a part of were picked up by the big companies as we developed them in actual production applications we were using to produce commercial work every day. People like Scitex and 3M and Kodak were regular visitors to our shop and production meetings. Do you remember "Lasers in Graphics?" A cutting edge seminar and forum in the early 80s that predicted flat bed scanners and the arrival of desk top scanning ten years before it became a reality for the main stream. People laughed at me when we addressed this issue. Our lead engineer was one of the people that made that happen. And we were retiring our huge hell drum scanners that cost $1,00o,000 and filled a room and took a $60,000 a year operator to make it work. It all looks and sounds so simple now with all that has been developed and marketed to fed our perceived need. I was was a part of it and enjoyed every new moment of it. It all comes down to this its not your D-Max it is your image and what you do with it and that it satisfies your creative desire for it to say what you want it to say. That is an individual issue. Thanks for your time Charlie

You don't have to leave or anything--we're actually pretty good-natured
here. As to your e-mail address, it's not too hard to change the name that
gets tacked onto your address--since you use Outlook, it's under
Tools->Accounts->Properties. If you swap back and forth between machines,
perhaps changing the friendly name to "Susan and Charlie Dennis" would be
a
good idea.
Anyway, if you're into B&W, this is the place to be, so feel free to join
in
the discussion.

James Thank you again for your comments and feed back. My question is why if it is such a problem for Adobe why don't they go after these web sites that promote it in a very large and public way and have them shut down? it Does not make sense when they are so open about it. That would solve the problem very quick. It is not the case where people are lending their disks and key codes to others or selling it to others to use. I am not justifying it or what they do at these sites but it would be a simple matter to move in on them as a group and put them out of business. Wouldn't you think? I don't know, maybe there are court cases pending but you don't hear about them. Does anyone else have any information on why they don't follow this course of action to get to these distributors? There must be some reason why. I will ask my attorney that question again. Thanks Charlie

Charlie, you aren't actually getting the program from
the site, but instead are getting it from another user
that has 'shared' the file with the rest of the network.
The overnet program (like others out there) is simply a
file sharing software that works over the internet to
make a HUGE peer-to-peer network. Anyone can share
anything, including copyright protected software, music
files, and viruses. Just because you can download it
doesn't mean it's legal.
I'm sure you've heard of Napster, the music sharing
software. The company was forced to shut down and there
were hundreds of arrests made in the past year for
copyright violations. This is the same thing.
