Hello I am a black and white large format photographer who is interested in setting up an Epson 1280 for a dedicated b&w setup. I am interested in hearing feedback from users of the UT2/MIS setup using Paul Roark's curves as well as hearing feedback from people using PiezographyBW profiles. I look forward to hearing from UT2 users and Piezo users. Thanks in advance for all responses. Regards Ross Borgida

I've usedsome MIS inks. I'm currently using the UT-FSN on a 1160. Just the best inkset I've used. Wondeful prints, perfect tone, neutral as I like, can hardly think of anything better, and I've been around BW prints for about 10 years now. On Ilford Smooth Pearl or some fine art matte paper,it's the way to go for me... I use the Epson driver, straight with the Ilford and with Paul's curves for the mattes. The Yahoo group archives are available online, so you can read a huge amount of stuff that people have already said. I'll bet a search on UT2 and Piezography turns up a well-culled list of messages. -- Ciao, Paul D. DeRocco Paul mailto:pderocco@...

Ross, I've used both and either will work well for you. If you are just starting in black and white, and do not have much experience with B&W inkjet printing then I would suggest the Piezography system to start. Their customer service is incredibly slow - but their documentation and instructions are excellent. The piezo system is monotone, so check with their website for the different colors available. Once you are a bit more advanced, I would try the UT2 inkset as it is the most versatile inkset available for the 1280. You will want to scour the list archives for proper use of UT2, but it is worth the extra work. Hello Ross, I tried PiezographyBW with the new ICC paper profiles and I could not solve the blocked middle tones in the images or the grayscale. I switched to MIS FSN and was very much pleased, and have now switched to UT2 inks from MIS (primarily because that inkset will allow me to also use glossy papers).I use an Epson 1280 that I bought from one of the newsgroup members and have not had any trouble producing the kind of images that I am proud to show people.
