C84 Frenzy - 2 of them on Mac OS X?

C84 Frenzy - 2 of them on Mac OS X?

2004-06-16 by Dave

I got sucked into the rebate frenzy and ended up buying two of the little C84s! I just
couldn't help myself, when you can buy a printer for less than the ink cartridges it
ships with. Life is amazing, and so ironic when you plan to use them with 3rd party
inks.

I want to use one for B&W and one for color snapshots. Does anyone know a way to
get Mac OS X (I'm currently running 10.2.8) to recognize both printers at once and
keep them straight? I tried hooking them both up, but Apple's Print Center will only
display one of them. I hooked them directly to the two USB ports on the back of my
G4 533MHz dual processor.

I did find a switch that I can use if there is no software solution at:
http://www.national-tech.com/specs/40290.htm
but it would be much nicer to have them both on line at once, with different names.

Thanks! This is a wonderful group!

I'm not sure this can be done, to have 2 printers hooked into a
single PC, but if you don't get a better answer here, maybe you
should try the Apple forums:

There is no problem having two printers hooked into
single Mac ( I have C82 and 2200 - with no problem).
I beleive the real problem is that you have two of the
same printers - so a switcher box will probably have
to be used - as the computer can't determine which
printer you really want. But good luck if you can
find another way.

Re: C84 Frenzy - 2 of them on Mac OS X?

2004-06-18 by Doug I.

Hi Dave,
I too love the UT-EZ setup for B&W and hate to rain on your
parade...but before other members of the group get sucked into the
frenzy, I'm 99% sure my C84 rebate forms specified "one per address."
The deal I participated in appeared to be co-sponsored by Apple and
Epson, so maybe this version is different. Just something to check into
before anyone goes rushing out to buy a truckload....

Dave, I'm going along with another poster who speculated that the
problem was two printers with the same name.

If that's the problem, then at least under 10.3.3, you might be able
to fix it by doing the following. I don't know if it's available in
the same place in 10.2.8. If not, maybe the Panther upgrade is in
order.

Open "Print and Fax" under System Prefs.

Click on Setup Printers

Click on the C84 showing in the window.

Do Command-I (Get Info)

At that window you can rename the printer. Name this one C84-1 (or
C84 Color, or whatever), then connect the other one and rename it if
you want.

Let us know if it works!
