OT small color printer

OT small color printer

2004-06-19 by Stephen Kobrin

I am about to shift from my Epson 1200 to my 1280 with UT2 inks for
B&W. However, that means I need another printer for color. The
color prints I do are primarily shots of family and friends and I
never print larger than 8X10 -- more often 4X6 or 5X7. Any
suggestions of a good quality small printer would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

I recently got an Epson R800 and love it - The quality of color prints
on PGPP or Premium Luster is fantastic. I also am having really nice
results with B&W on EEM.

Hi Steve

I also have the 1200 and 1280 both running with CFS- I use the first
one exclusively for B&W and the second for color, first with dye
based inks and then with archival ones from MIS. As the two machines
got old and the time spent for unclogging grew proportionately, I
decided to look outside the "fold" for a color printer. I ended up
getting the Canon i9100, I got mine off Ebay for 100 bucks, I
believe you can still get a brand new one for $250. It uses 6
separate carts, is whisper quiet, outputs a full resolution (4800
dpi) 8x10 in 1 minute and is also 13x19 capable. The quality of
color reproductions is excellent, it uses all the Epson papers with
good results, Ilford, Lyson and Red River have ICM profiles for it.
If you want archival color you must go with Lyson inks and paper,
Canon claims 25 years on theirs, frankly I like the results off
Epson paper better. It is not good for B&W out of the box, you can
however get the Lyson quads or small gamut inks- CFS are a bit more
expensive since most manufacturers focus on Epson models, MIS makes
refill kits however and I see that the piezography web site
anticipates a b&w for Canon though no tentative date is mentioned.

Good luck in your search

Andrei
