Hahnemuhle William Turner Paper UT2 Curves/Profiles

Hahnemuhle William Turner Paper UT2 Curves/Profiles

2004-06-20 by borgida

Hello

I am considering purchasing the UT2 system with Paul Roark's curves
or possible Roy Harrington's Quadtone RIP. Question I have is are
there curves or profiles for the UT2 inset with the Hahnemuhle
William Turner Paper? I use the Photo Rag paper for less textured
images but I primarily use the William Turner paper.

Thanks for all feedback in advance.

Regards
Ross

I use an Epson 890/UT2/QTR

The surfaces are different and Paul's PhotoRag curves will need a little tweaking for
William Turner. With that said Roy made custom profiles for all the papers I use - including
William Turner - and I think will include this profile in the future to other users.

But my recomendation - if you don't have a paper profiler - have Roy make you custom
profiles. The price is very fair and the output is really stunning.

Hi John

How often do you have custom profiles created? How many times have
you had your William Turner profile re-profiled?

Thanks
Ross

Have been using the 890/UT2/QTR combo for only a couple of months. So only had the
profiles created once. I did many step wedges and found William Turner needed it's own
profile. Using the PhotoRag profile on William Turner was close but I thought "what the
heck - might as well do it right." and it was money well spent for sure.

If you have an Eye-One Photo to read the step wedges you could do it yourself.

Last month or so I asked about Hahnemuhle's William Turner paper and received some
excellent info from the list members. I thought I'd pass on my experience with William
Turner since I've been using it regularly now.

I've been using exclusively Epson Enhanced Matte for proofing and everyday prints and
Hahnemuhle's PhotoRag for a nicer presentation. But I wanted a paper with a little more
interest - a little more surface texture or tooth. In the past I used German Etching - the
surface has a rough texture that actually has little threads of cotton if examined closely
but a touch too rough for me.

Jim Doyle - www.shadesofpaper.com - was nice enough to send me some sample William
Turner paper.

First I tried Epson Velvet Fine Art which is essentially Epson's version of PhotoRag...so that
paper was out. The tooth was the same as PhotoRag and using my eyedropper Dmax was
better with PhotoRag too.

Next I printed with William Turner. Under a loupe William Turner has a rough orange-peel-
skin like tooth to the surface and might be a touch warmer when compared to PhotoRag.
The tooth is much closer to German Etching than PhotoRag and has a fine sandpaper feel
to the surface. Dmax was excellent too.

So now my favorite paper at this time is William Turner with PhotoRag a close second.

I'm printing with Epson 890/UT2/QTR
