Digital BW, The Print

hi all,

anyone here using gimp and epsons for black only printing?

I finally got out and bought an epson c64 for cheaper black only 
printing, but using linux and the gimp i get very contrasty results. 
Printing the same image from the gimp with epson and hp 7660 shows, that 
the epson is more contrasty, lacks fine gradation of shades comparing to 
hp, which shows nice tonal range. The epson print is not bad, wondering 
just if anybody has a gimp-curve or such, or any ideas. Dot gain as such 
is not so possible in the gimp, or is it?
