Can only get "green" or "pink" shaded black & white prints. Does anyone know of methods of overcoming the "colored" output ? Thanks, Les

Les, if you want to use the 2200 for color also go to
www.colorbytesoftware.com and cough up $500 for ImagePrint. It is easy to
learn, makes good b&w prints on matte papers such as Arches Infinity etc.,
and you will save at least that much in ink and paper, not to mention your
sanity.

For a cheaper solution I would try to download the free Atkins profiles on the Epson website . They are much better than the ones that came with your printer. Second, and probably more useful is to read about the Quad Tone Rip now available for the Ultra Chrome inkset. Everyone that is using it and discussing this on the Piezography3000 Yahoo Group raves about its ability to straighten out the color crossovers and metamerism. Look for the postings that include QTR in the title. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "lwsandman" <lwsandman@y...> wrote: > Can only get "green" or "pink" shaded black & white prints. What platform are you running? Mac or PC? If Mac try Quadtone RIP (PC version on its way).

Les Imageprint will help your colour work also if you don¹t have the ability to get good profiles for your printer (eg with an Eye One Photo). (If you have a well-profiled machine I doubt you will notice much difference in your colour work except in situations where a colour photo contains large amounts of B&W.) Problem is that it costs $500. If you have a Mac, QTR is fabulous and only costs $50. Roy is working on a PC version. This all assumes that you want to use the same ink set for colour and B&W. If you are prepared to have two sets (one for colour and one for B&W) and incur the extra ink use associated with swapping then a bunch of other alternatives are available, probably most notably the UT7 ink set from MIS (with either Paul Roark¹s workflow or with QTR). Steve PS I have a 2100 (European 2200) and use it with QTR and I am very very pleased.

Every inkjet printer should have a custom profile made on the paper that is most used, at the very least. The best results I have found are www.profilecity.com. 'They charge $100.00 each. But for color try the Atkins profiles on the Epson site first. They are free. However, there is no real substitue for a well made custom profile designed for the unique footprint of your machine.

I'll just go along with everyone else and recommend QTR. Whether you're working with the original Epson Ultrachrome inkset or using a third party BW inkset it will give you great results. I've tried it both with the UT7 inkset using custom profiles and with the MIS 7600 Archival Pigment inkset using the supplied 2200 profiles, and the quality is excellent with both inksets. If you're on PC I would recommend you to just hold on a little bit until the windows version is ready, no need to spend $500 on Imageprint. -- Daniel Staver http://daniel.staver.no

That sounds pretty good since the IP license is more like $500 per year if
you want major upgrades. Do you get a lot of profiles with QTR? One of the
things I like about IP is that they have a profile for about every paper, or
at least the ones that I like. I chose IP since I wanted a simple, out of
the box solution for printing once I had done the work in Photoshop, with a
calibrated monitor. So far, so good.

Where are these profiles located? Search for 2200 or profile or atkins doesn't find it. Thanks

Atkins never made profiles for the 2200. If link does not work they can be found when you go to Drivers & Downloads for the 2200. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/EditorialAnnouncement.jsp? BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=42114986 An alternitive are profiles by Nick Wheeler and Eric Bullock. Profiles are for both full color and small-gamut (like b+w or sepia). Make sure your printer settings are set properly for each profile. http://lenscraft.com/profiles/

Recently a friend gave me an Epson 2200 for free. The one cavaet was that a printer message stating "parts in your printer are near the end of their service life, contact your dealer fro replacement." This printer works, and looks well kept. My question is; has anyone gotten this message, is it hard and expensive to fix? Joe C.

If you are on windows try this program: http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml You have to reset the protection counter. Also try: http://www.mwords.co.uk/catalog/articles_info.php?articles_id=107

It means the waste pads are nearly full. You can reset the counter and continue printing by following this procedure: http://www.2manuals.com/reset_wip.php If you don't replace the waste pads at some point they will overflow and ink will leak out of the printer. I'm waiting for that to happen to mine. I reset the counter but can't find good instructions on replacing the waste pads. Having a service center do it will cost more than a used 2100 so that's out of the questions as well... -- Daniel Staver http://daniel.staver.no

SSC didn't work on my 2100, but the button reset method did. SSC is a very nice utility for checking cartridge status, doing nozzle checks, head cleaning and other maintenance though. -- Daniel Staver http://daniel.staver.no

I've received several replys to this question. Thanks to all, I'm going to put this in motion this week. As i stated, this printer was kept in very good condition, so I really want to use it as long as possible. I haven't spent more than $400 for a printer in years, and after spending $150 for my R220/MIS inks as a Christmas present to myself, I don't want to go deeper into the hole. Thanks again, Joe C. --- Daniel Staver <daniel@...> wrote: > It means the waste pads are nearly full.
