Hi,

I have just opened a box of Lyson Smooth Fine Art, a double sided
paper. Is this a rebranded Hannemuele paper and if so what? Does it
go by another name? Any info or experience of using it, closest
paper for profile etc with MIS UT2 anf FSN or (OT) Epson 2100
Ultrachromes, would be appreciated.

Yes, Lyson papers are made by Hahnemuhle. The smooth fine art I belive is Hahnemuhle
German Etching rag.

Colin,

Lyson used to claim that their papers, though made by Hahnemuehle,
were coated with their own proprietary formula to be compatible
with their dyes.
Don't know if this is still true; don't know if it makes a difference
with pigments. But it's worth keeping in mind that this may not
be a simple rebranding as with other variants of the H. papers.

Thank you, Jim, for your answer. I had thought it likely but wasn't
sure. Antonis raised the long known confusion as to the coatings on
their branded paper and if it is different but laid on Hahnemuhle
stock. Do you know, Jim, what the reality is?

My understanding is that the Lyson Standard Fine Art has been linked
to German Etching.

Thanks for your help,

Colin

Thanks, Jim,

The paper I enquired about was the Lyson "Smooth" and is double
sided. I have yet to use it and will keep it until I have a need for
DS paper. I have a few sheets left of the Lyson "Standard", the
first box I bought about three years ago. I did not like the texture
and switched to Photorag. However I printed a sheet the other day
using UT2 Dark sepia faded to 50 % and it suited that image fine
although it was very different from what I saw on screen, apart from
the hue I mean! I may have to resurrect my Piezo and try again on my
1160 for B&W as I have a few sheets left.

Thanks for your help.

Colin
