MIS FS inks in 1280 and other Hextone printers
2004-09-21 by Paul Roark
I've placed on my web pages information, settings and curves for the UT-FS and UT-FSN inksets in the 1280. I expect the 1290 will work about the same as the 1280 (but a bit darker - which is OK), and the 1270 will need minor curve tweaking unless the 1280 driver is used. The ink order I'm recommending and supporting is CMCMY. This produces dotless images with the 1280 on matte papers. On glossy papers I can see some dots on some papers with a magnifier. The setup prints grayscale files reasonably with no curves, but mild grayscale curves improve the evenness of the ramp and matches the output to the usual standards I've worked to with other inksets. I have made a few RGB curves for some papers, and they are needed for printing on glossy papers with Eboni ink installed. Even these curves, however, are simple in that all the density adjustments can be made on a single curve. People need not worry about cross-overs, etc. The Epson driver and variable dot technology do all that is needed. These grayscale curves are so easy to work with, that I hope users will feel more comfortable adjusting their own. MIS is sending an old 2000P to me, I think. So, I'll setup that system next week.
