7600 UT7 problems (a new wrinkle)

7600 UT7 problems (a new wrinkle)

2004-09-26 by James Haney

It seems as if I have been plagued by every possible technological
gremlin lately.

I had finally gotten myself happily printing along with UT7 inks in a
brand new 7600.

Now the ink light comes on for the Matte Black cart and the LCD says
"Set Ink Cartridge".

I really doubt I have used the whole thing, Epson Status showed all of
the carts at about 90% full a day before this and when I shake the cart
there definitely seems to be a significant quantity of ink in there.

As a check I inserted a Black Position Cleaning cart (brand new) into
the slot and got the same message.

I haven't placed an Epson Ultrachrome cart in there yet as I am afraid
the inks will be incompatible and cause worse problems.

I put a support request into MIS and will give them a call on Monday,
but does anyone have any experience with this?

The printer isn't reading the chip on the cart well. It want's you to
pull it out and reseat it. If it can't read the chip, it's not going to
let you use the cart.

If you put a UC ink cart. in that slot, do you get the same problem? If
not, then it's not a problem with the printer, it's a problem with the
cart. Talk to MIS about it. If the problem persists with a UC cart, call
Epson for warranty service.
