Digital BW, The Print

Help folks!!

I use an Epson 1280 printer to print BW prints and have started 
getting a scratch 2.875 " rom the right side of the print.This is 
getting expensive if I use good paper EEM HW Matte). The scratch is 
not on the thinner proof paper. I have changed the paper thickness 
lever and there is very little difference. I realize it is probably 
something I can't remedy myself, but may be.

Scratches must be something stuck in the printer, but that wouldn't 
explain them being just at one point. The only time I had repeatable 
marks on a print they were white lines at the beginning and end. It 
turned out to be a slight problem with the paper feed mechanism. I 
was told to put a printable dot in the top and bottom margin of the 
print, with only about 10% transparency - so it wasn't visible. But 
it got the paper feed going before actually getting to the important 
part of the print.
