Tip to resolve "Unable to write raster data to driver" in QTR

After downloading and installing QTR & QTRGui last night, I experienced some difficulties in getting QTR to print to my USB Epson 4000 printer on Windows XP. In particular, the log file reported that QTR was "Unable to write raster data to driver". I had enabled file & printer sharing, had installed the Microsoft Loopback Device, and thought everything should be working, but no luck. After much head-scratching, I found the problem: Norton Internet Security's Personal Firewall had a rule that was blocking Windows File Sharing. In order to fix this, you would either need to get rid of that rule (and perhaps open up a security hole) or you can add another rule that specifically allows Inbound "local netbios-ssn (port 139)" connections specifically from your own computer (and perhaps from the loopback address). There is probably a more elegant way to fix this, but it has worked for me (a neutral B&W print has just come forth from the 4000!) and it might be helpful to others. -ajwerth
