I have posted a beta version of QTRgui that uses Michael Hung's RawPrint to print directly to a Windows printer without requiring any network or printer sharing. www.sbillard.org\Shareware\QTRgui.htm. -Stephen www.sbillard.org/Stephen [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

stephen-- this brings things a bit closer to reality for Win98 users (there must be at least 2 of us out here). I think the remaining limitation is the reliance of QRT on batch files. Win98 seems to have a limit on parameters passed to batch files (i'm surprised anyone paid attention to batch files after win95!). Perhaps there is a way that Roy can tweak QTR? I'm ever hopeful. An issue that seems to be platform independent is that the I was in a weird image select/printer select cycle when I used the buttons; i was able to get things moving by using the menu bar. -matt > > I have posted a beta version of QTRgui that uses Michael Hung's RawPrint to > print directly to a Windows printer without requiring any network or printer > sharing. www.sbillard.org\Shareware\QTRgui.htm. > > -Stephen > www.sbillard.org/Stephen > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > Please visit the Group Homepage to check the Files, and other resources as they are often being updated. > > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint > > If you wish to receive no emails or just a daily digest, or you wish to unsubscribe, please edit your Membership preferences by visiting this same page. > > Please follow these basic guidelines: > - As threads develop, trim off excess portions of earlier messages to keep them short. > - Good manners are required at all time. Hmmm, as I recall with Win98 there are properties on Windows DOS boxes such as the resources it is created with, memory etc., There may be an easily corrected DOS box resource issue. ...John --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Matt Haber" <matt@m...> wrote: > stephen-- > > this brings things a bit closer to reality for Win98 users (there must > be at least 2 of us out here). I'm ever hopeful. Getting rid of the batch files is on my list, just lower priority than the new release and getting rid of the requirement for networking. > > An issue that seems to be platform independent is that the I was in a > weird image select/printer select cycle when I used the buttons; i > was able to get things moving by using the menu bar. Interesting. There is no difference in the code between using the buttons or the menu. I no longer have access to a Windows 98 based system, so it will be pure luck if we get things working.

Good news on Steve's and Mike Hung's changes to the QTR GUI. I loaded it on my W2K box and it ran first time! Great job guy's... I never got the networked version to run, period. Very neutral prints and great profile selection for the 4000! I'm planning on printing an exhibition of work with QTR after more testing... And for those of you running Eric Bullock's small gamut profiles for B&W, there is small difference in the neutrality of the highlights, but his B&W profiles are still a good low hassle way to go if for some reason you don't want to use a RIP. I have a question are the sliders to adjust neutrailty for light viewing condtions? Approx. what K temp is the 50-50 setting? For B&W printing, ImagePrint has some serious competition... Thanks! There is no calibration for light temp. You have to experiment to find what you like for your prints. -Stephen www.sbillard.org/Stephen
