Worth it? You mean worth the presumed higher price, Lin?
When I last needed to upgrade, Apple seemed to me to have lost or be
losing the competitive advantage it had had for "graphics" - images,
graphic design, typography, etc. So I priced both a Mac desktop and a
similarly robust Dell desktop to see if the Mac was worth the
difference. But there was no difference to speak of, and what little
there was got swamped by the cost of the software I would have had to
"crossgrade". So I got another Mac. But if I had been on a WinTel
machine, I'm sure I would have gotten another one of those instead.
Now I need to upgrade again. But this time, if I ever have any money
again, I'm thinking about turning my old Mac desktop into a
scan-and-print server and networking it with a dual-display
desktop-replacement notebook. Again either Mac or WinTel.
I'm delighted Lin has volunteered to do the rest of my homework for me. 8)
For starters I'm eager to know whether an EIZO ColorEdge display can
be used both in portrait and in landscape orientation on either
platform? I've heard LCD's are starting to re-orient on demand much
as the old Radius Pivot monitors did? Making it easy to live with a
much smaller image display I assume. An 11x14 image will just fit -
life size - in landscape (and portrait?) mode on the 19-inch
ColorEdge.

Sam, who did not get a ColorEdge for Christmas (yet)
