New Quadtone RIP and GUI doing nothing

New Quadtone RIP and GUI doing nothing

2004-12-28 by elitephotolv

Hello,
I just downloaded and installed the Windows version of Quadtone RIP
and the GUI v 2.1.7.

Until now, I used the old way of dragging the icon to the batch file
and got a wonderful print.

Now howver, I am trying to use the GUI and when I try to print using
this interface, I get absolutely nothing.

I click image, select the approptiate image (grey scale, tif 8 bit
that printed with the old method) select the appropriate paper I am
printin on, click the Print button and the image disappears from the
preview window and that's it. Printer does not make a sound (yes
it's turned on), no printing at all.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.
Randy

There are several log files created by QTR. What is the contents of these
files?

What OS are you running? What printer? If the image disappears quickly, that
is usually some kind of problem starting up QTR from the GUI. Set DEBUG in
QTRgui and see if there are any error messages shown in the DOS window for
QTR.

RE: [Digital BW] New Quadtone RIP and GUI doing nothing

2004-12-29 by Stephen Billard

QTRgui will create a log file if you set the DEBUG option from the Options
Menu. This file, QTRguiLog.txt, is a copy of the batch file that was created
to run your print job. Also when DEBUG is selected QTRgui cause the command
window that runs the print process to be visible. It should stay visible
until you respond the request to press any key to continue. Sometimes the
command window flashes by quickly. This is usually an indication that there
was an error in starting one of the print processing programs. When this is
the case, you can rename the QTRguiLog.txt file to QTRguiLog.bat to recreate
the batch file. From the Windows start menu, select RUN and type in CMD. (On
some versions of Windows you may have to type Command.) When you click OK,
you will get a command window. From this command window, run the
QTRguiLog.bat file you created. This time the command window will not close,
so you should be able to see any error messages displayed.

Hello Stephen,

I did the below and the file printed through QTR!!!??? The question is
why did it do there and not through the gui??
This is what I ran in the .bat file to trigger the printing process
from the command window.

@color F0
CD C:\Program Files\QuadToneRIP\
".\Bin\ImageToRaster.exe" 2>QTRLog1.TXT QTRgui_2.1.7 DAD FilePrint 1
"PPD=Quad1280.ppd PRINTER=Quad1280 MediaType=Matte Pagesize=Letter
position=center scale-percent=100 portrait=yes Resolution=1440super
ColorModel=QTRIP" "K:\Completed images through Photoshop CS\Footprint
in sand.tif" | ".\Bin\QuadToPrinter.exe" 2>QTRLog2.TXT QTRgui_2.1.7
DAD FilePrint 1 "PPD=Quad1280.ppd PRINTER=Quad1280 MediaType=Matte
ripFeed=Standard Pagesize=Letter Resolution=1440super RipSpeed=hispeed
ColorModel=QTRIP stpDither=Ordered ripCurve1=UT2-EEnhMatte-neutral-2
ripCurve2=- ripBlend=100 ripGamma=0 ripLimit=0" | ".\Bin\RawPrint.exe"
2>RawLog.TXT "Black and White Printer" - "Footprint in sand.tif"
@Echo.
@Echo Be sure to check log files for possible errors!

Hello Steven,

I went to your website and downloaded the earlier version for
networked systems and it works now. Something about the 2.1.7 did not
like my setup.

Thanks,

your friend in Photography,

Well, that is a good question. The log file is an exact copy of the batch
file that QTRgui created. So, for some reason on your computer, the batch
file won't execute when run from a program.

The differences are:

1. The name of the file is different. The batch file QTRgui creates has a
temporary name generated by Windows. The file resides in your temporary file
location.

2. It is run by an "Execute" function call rather than from the command
window.

Can you think of any security settings or such that would prevent a program
from spawning another program?

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
