Steve--thanks for the response. To make sure I hadn't been using a wrong setting somewhere, I tried Epson Premium Luster with the appropriate settings. Naturally, feeding the paper from the paper tray. It printed flawlessly which just whetted my appetite for the RIP to show its stuff with PFA.

Peter,
You may not be doing anything wrong... I get the same error when I
try to roll print on the 4000, and semi-matte is only sold in rolls
(for large prints) w/ an upcoming exhibition... There seems to be an
issue comunicating/handshaking the 3 paper feed signals to the
printer. Stephen an Roy are busy fixing a lot of different problems I
suspect... Hang in there.

The 4000's kinda special because it has different paper paths. QTR may
not be sending the right command to the printer to feed paper from the
"right" path I suppose. (It may be not sending it at all). (The
command is called "set paper path".)

What you can try before Roy fixes the problem is to print a page of
something with the Epson driver with manual feed first, then use QTR.
(I don't have a 4000 so I am just guessing.. The printer might use the
"last" setting)

The 4000 printer has three feed slots. For sheet feeding you have
to be sure to pick "Auto Sheet Feed" to get the paper from the stack
loader and to pick "Manual Sheet Feed" to feed from the top slot or
the back straight-through slot. I have used these so I'm pretty sure
they work.

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Quad-Gui Question

Roy--
Actually the 4000 has four feed slots--top, tray, manual front and manual rear. I have been trying manual front because I cannot get behind the printer to feed paper from there even though there is enough room behind it to handle large sheets of paper when paper it is loaded from the front. The Quad "Media" pull down list shows the following settings: Auto Sheet Feed; Sheet Feed; Roll Feed (Cutter on) and Roll Feed (Cutter off).

You refer to "Manual Sheet Feed". I assume you are referring to Sheet Feed in the Quad's Media choices. "Sheet Feed" is the media choice that I have been using for thick paper but without success. I know that everything is set right as lighter paper stock fed from the paper tray prints without a hitch using "Auto Sheet Feed" media choice.

The 4000's driver pull down for "Media Source" includes: Paper Tray; Roll Paper; Roll Paper (Banner) and Manual Feed. I have been successfully using Manual Feed for heavy stock when using the 4000's driver (even though getting the heavy paper loaded right takes a bit of practice).

Are you printing thick paper stock, fed manually and choosing Sheet Feed using a Mac? Any other thoughts that might help me for printing with heavy stock paper?

I have run across another issue. The 4000 stoped printing on 13 X 19 Epson Enhanced Matte about 1/3 of the way through the image. This happened earlier today with 8.5 X 11 Enhanced Matte paper. Each time I ran the printer again with exactly the same settings and the second time around for each paper the whole image was printed. I must say that the QuadGui print looks quite good and with a few more tweaks to the image, the QuadGui will be a terrific tool. That is, when its few quirks get ironed out.

I wonder whether there should be a separate group for this program on Yahoo?

Reading other posts suggesting that uninstalling, cleaning the registry and reinstalling QuadGui would perhaps solve my problem, I did so earlier this morning. Successfully loading thick paper manually and making certain all the settings in QuadGui were correct, the 4000 would not print as the LED on the printer again read "Load Paper from the P. Tray".

I guess that there will be fixes coming in the near future to alleviate this problem.
