QTR Anguish Resolved

2004-12-30 by Ukko Heikkinen

The front end, QTRqui, finds the image one wants to print, but the Gimp-Or-Whatever-Bats-Or-Whatever of the QuadToneRip proper cannot find the image file unless it is in the Quadtone Rip default folder. The program places the error log in the folder where the image is.

The Setup Wizard allows one to install the program anywhere. Please don't - put it in de default folder.

Are you saying that the image I want to print needs to be copied into the
QuadToneRip default folder? Is that a bug in QTR? Seems like it should be
able to print images from where ever they might be. But I can live with that
limitation if it means that I can print!

At least in my case, the image can be anywhere.

My QTR is in the defau;t location. Even if I copy a tiff there, it
doesn't print.

RE: [Digital BW] QTR Anguish Resolved

Thanks to some detective work by Michael Hung, there is now a fix for this
problem. It is a long story, but to make it short, in order to stay within
the limits of command lines of batch files I had to shorten the command name
string. This required forcing the "Current Directory" to be the QuadToneRIP
folder. Unfortunately, Windows has been around too long. I had forgotten
some of the esoteric requirements of this batch file environment.

Version 2.1.9 is now posted. There are two instances of this version. One,
the normal download, fixes the batch file. The other, 2.9.1 Beta 1,
eliminates the batch file entirely. If you are a brave soul, give it a try.
Among other things, eliminating the batch file fixes a problem with extended
character sets in file names.

The 2.1.10 version solved the manual front-loading problem for me. Now I can get to the tweaking!

Thanks!

Stephen & Michael,

I didn't get home in time to try 2.1.9 but I downloaded & installed
2.1.10. It did not work for me. Did a cleanout and tried again.
Still no luck. So I downloaded the .10 beta 3 version. Bingo!! Works
like a charm. I did notice that the beta version only created the
QTRlog.txt file and everything that was in the previous log files is
in there.

Thank you so much for your very quick response to our problems. It
must have been driving you crazy since a fix would work for some
folks but not others and we did not all have the exact same problem.

We appreciate the effort! There is a lot of commercial software out
there that is not as well supported.

Along that line, I sent Roy my $50 right after the 1st version of
QTR for Windows was released. Do you have a PayPal account that we
could send a donation to for all your efforts?

Thanks again.

RE: [Digital BW] Re: QTR Anguish Resolved WooHoo!!

The beta version consolidates all the logs into one log file. It will also
notice if there are errors reported in the log and display those errors in a
window. There seem to be a lot of advantages to getting rid of the batch
file, so I suspect that this version will be the one to propagate in the
future.

For now, however, it is a big change, I need to know that it works better
for everyone before I abandon the batch files.

I'm not charging for the GUI. I suppose if someone sent a donation I would
have to accept it, though.
