good paper for UT2 and epson 1280

good paper for UT2 and epson 1280

2005-01-04 by Marcus

Im searching for some different paper to use with the UT2 inks. Im loving the inks and
wish I could get something that has a little sheen to it. Right now I am using Moab
entrada natural and I am loving it. I also use Somerset Velvet Radiant white (the uncoated
one). I am enjoying both papers and highly reccomend them to anyone that likes a matte
paper. Expecially the moab paper. When I printed in the darkroom, I used ilford
multigrade fibre base with a pearl finish. Is there anything out there that is similiar to
this? It must be archival or I will not use it. Print longevity is very important to me. I was
wondering about the epson premium luster papers. If anyone could give me some
suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. The information on this forum is great and it is
what caused me to take the plunge and purchase a CIS system.

Paul if your reading this, do you happen to have a curve for the moab papers for the UT2
inks? or what about the somerset velvet paper(the uncoated one)? Right now I am using
the photorag curves and they seem to be working pretty good. I have learned a lot from
you and appreciate the time you have put into making the curves and giving printing
suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
Marcus Carrillo

Marcus,

I don't have a Moab curve for UT2. I have not used the inkset in a while,
but just loaded some this evening. So, maybe I'll get to it.

For a paper with more "sheen," the Premium Semigloss might do it. Many like
Luster, but I prefer the Semigloss and Semimatte, which for some reason is
only available in rolls.

A while back, when I tried Moab Entrada Natural, I used the EEM curves.
Printed a bit cooler, but I prefer cooler to warmer anyway. I think
this was on Paul's recommendation.

Thank Paul. I think I am going to try the epson premium papers and see what I think.
What about the costco paper I am hearing about? How is the longevity?

There are no accelerated aging tests of it as far as I know, but it has the
same buffered paper core as the Epson Premium papers. And these are about
the only RC papers that have this characteristic. My guess is that it is
basically an updated Epson Premium Glossy paper and will have a similar
life.
