QTR Win XP - Curves Creation & Modification

QTR Win XP - Curves Creation & Modification

2005-01-25 by Shilesh Jani

Hey All,

OK after a number of years using FS based custom inks on my 1280, I
am experimenting with QTR on a 2200. I must say it is the easiest
new b/w system I have ever used. Excellent work Roy and Stephen.

I prefer my prints on either side of "neutral" but not dead-nuts
neutral. I love the warm curves of QTR, but am less than satified
with the CoolSe curves. Here is my issue - I believe I may be more
senstive to magenta than most, so this is not a generalization. How
do I modify the CoolSe, or create my own curves so that there is just
a hint of less magenta and more cyan ink layed down? I have tried
various blends of Cool, CoolSe, and Warm curves, but still, on the
cool side of neutral, the magnta is annoying me.

I dont have any profiling experience, but have access to an EyeOne
system, and have spents tons of time creating adjustment curves for
linearization.

Thank you for your help. It is good to be back exprimenting after so
long just making satisfactory prints.

Regards

Shilesh

Hi Shilesh,

The curve making stuff on windows is just about ready to try.
The coolSe has a little bit more magenta than the cool. It would be
quite simple to just go the other way -- decrease magenta and increase
cyan. It can be done with just the ink limits.

Shilesh,

What inks are you using in the 2200, and how do you like it compared
to the 1280?

Thank you Roy,

How would I do it? Or is it in the next vesion? My download had
some curves generation files for the 1280 and 1160 printers, but
nothing for the 2200. Could you send me one of those files for the
2200 so I can modify the ink limits?

Shilesh

Re: QTR Win XP - Curves Creation & Modification

Pieris,

2200 OEM inks with QTR has a slightly coarser dither in the
highlights than my FS based 1280 using Epson driver. But, that is
not a function of the RIP, rather, the numbers of different shades on
inks used. So, if 4 shades of gray are used with QTR on the 2200 it
will be even finer. However, 2200 OEM inks+QTR is sufficient for all
needs other than looking at prints with a 4X loupe. And it is so
easy! My first print with it came out PERFECT!

Hope this helps.

Shilesh

Oh, and one other thing: QTR printing on 2200 is significantly
faster than 1280 using Epson driver.
