New c86

New c86

2005-01-25 by artcrafted

Hi, I am new to the group. I have a 2000P and as you know it is not
the best for B&W. I still need it for color so I do not want to
convert it. So, by Paul's recommendation I have bought a C86. It is
new and still sitting unopen.
I bought the following inks from MIS:
EZ-T0441-K, EZW-T0443-C, EZW-T0443-M, and the EZW-T0444-Y.
Is there anything else that I need? Do I need a "chip resetter?".
(Not sure what that is.) Do I need to make any modifications to the
C-86 itself(?) As shown by the illustration from Paul that shows a
piece of cardboard applied and an edge cut, or is this just for the
new clear c86 carts?
Thanks for any help you can give.

I think you're ready to go. Be sure the black ink type matches that paper
you want to use: Eboni for matte, Photo black for glossy.

The chip resetter and modification of it are when you decide to use bulk
inks and refill carts. Then you need to reset the chip so the printer
doesn't think it's out of ink.

Those warm inks are pure carbon. If the tone of the print is too warm for
you, use some neutral carts to cool them down.

Good luck.

Thanks Paul!
I tried the printer, and at first I did the test prints on plain paper. Huge mistake. I wasted a load of ink, the eboni just dumped ink out in blots. The cartridge is half full just after trying to do the alignment checks. But after putting in the enhanced matte paper, all the problems were gone. I can see going the bulk ink route soon. As for the warm color, yes it is a bit warm...I do drawings and paintings, and that is what I need the printer for, reproductions. You can see some of my artwork at my site I am just beginning at www.1adams.com The work on the site is scanned directly from p2000 prints and was then put on the site.
I guess this next question is out of the norm for this group...but does anyone know what the best way would be to capture the original image of the drawing and then have it printed? Usually the drawings are larger than a normal scanner.
Are there instructions for using the chip resetter?

Consider using the easy-refill carts instead. Those, a syringe & needle, a
bottle of bulk ink, and a resetter are about all you need.

I think they come with it.

Richard:

What you're asking about I do once in a while. If it's only slightly
larger than my scanner (a Sapphir Ultre) I scan as many segments of it
as necessary and merge the files in Photoshop. Plan B is to photograph
the original in sections using a digital camera, and again merge.
Scanner is easy. Camera is trickier - you have to worry about lighting,
distance, overlap, etc.

This is my first post on this forum. Hello everybody!

I have a 1270 & 2200 and print my own photos with them from my Mac, as
well as restoration work and a bit of duplication of artwork thrown in.
I hope I can contribute in some small way as well as learn from all the
experts!

Leslie Otterbein
