Elements 3.0 & UT2 with 1280

Elements 3.0 & UT2 with 1280

2005-01-26 by asgm3

I'm ready to get started printing my black & white negatives using
a Epson 1280 printer, and the Ultatone inksets developed by
Paul Roark. My question is in regards to the imaging software.
I'm going to be using an e-mac, scanning with a Dimage 5400,
and am wondering about how well Elements 3.0 will work with
this set-up? Elements 3.0 doesn't allow for curve adjustments, is
this going to be a significant problem if I want to develop high
quality prints? Must I purchase Photoshop CS?

Second, Paul Roark mentions that with "image editors
Photoshop and Picture Window more control is possible,
including print tones that range form dark sepia to very cold, by
using image adjustment curves. Photoshop Elements can also
be used to gain this expanded control. For that program the
adjustment curves need to be put onto small files with layers that
can then be dragged to the image file." Just how difficult is it to
do this with Elements 3.0?

Thank you very much for your advise!
Gonzalo

I put the curves on small images as layers that you can drag to your working
image. You won't be able to modify the curves, but most don't anyway. Let
me know which of the papers for which I have curves that you'd like, and
I'll send an image to you off list.

The workflow of dragging a layer from one image to another is very easy.

So, if you already have Elements, give it a try before buying PS CS.

UT7 curve needed for PSE 3/Mac (Attn P.Roark?)

Paul, I couldn't find these on your website or in the files section of the group. I have
experience with the EZ inks on a C84 (best free printer EVAR!), and I've just put UT7 inks in
my 2200. While printing some portraits, I'm seeing some bronzing in the subjects hair. I
haven't applied any of the curves (I'm using Elements 3 on a Mac) and suspect that's the
problem.

I can't find these images with the embedded curve. I'm looking for the EEM ones.

I just send them off list.

That is one area problems often appear.

See if these curves work OK.
