Request for Information on BW Permanence

Request for Information on BW Permanence

2005-01-26 by willowcanyonenterprises

New to the group. I print BW using Epson Printer 7600 UltraChrome,
ImagePrint ColorByte 6.0, Epson inkset with matte black,ColorByte
gray profiles with no tint on various matte papers. Also color on
matte papers.

Wilhelm has data, obvious reasons, only on Epson print driver, ink
and papers.

Does any one have any permanence data on my configuation for BW and
color?
Are Epson gloss black, matte black and light black pigmented inks
per carbon?
What do you recommend for gloss black and white for my configuration?
Do you recommend any other inksets, profiles for the Epson 7600?

A lot of questions, but would appreciate knowing the answer to any
one of them. Thanks

The Epson Material Safety Data Sheets indicate that the Epson UC blacks are
not pure carbon. My tests of them, however, indicate that they are about
the same as the MIS black inks, which are said to be pure carbon.

I have not tested that combination you print with specifically, but I have
tested Epson UC inks. My tests as well as Wilhelm's indicate that the
"carbon" or mostly carbon black pigments are the toughest things we have
available to us. As such, assuming ColorByte runs the LK all the way up
into the highlights and uses little or no color pigments, the B&W printed
with mostly the black inks would be considerably more lightfast than the
Epson driver "B&W" prints that use a lot of color pigs. So, you can safely
assume that you're better off than the Wilhelm tests.

I hope this is helpful.
