That was pretty much also my problem... i've given up on the 1280 - but i do have some new carts - and i'm gonna see if this was a problem with a bad batch ... i really want to spend more time doing my photography than figuring out how to clean clogs!

I am sorry for another post about clogging with a 1280, but I seem to
be having a different kind of problem and the Yahoo archive search is
no help.

I am experiencing clogs in multiple heads that began after installing
a new UT2 cart. I have tried most of the usual solutions; returning
to OEM ink, letting the printer rest overnight, various windex
tricks, etc. What is new to me is that I can occasionally get a good
nozzle check. I then try to print a purge pattern and I find that I
get lots of banding. I then print another nozzle check and find I am
back where I started and cleanings don't help.

Any suggetsions?

Thanks for the help.

Peter

If you think the problems are with MIS carts, you should e-mail MIS at

support@... .

This puts you into the MIS tech support system. How fast MIS gets to you,
of course, depends on the current load on the tech support team. While it
won't be instantaneous, the good news is that the e-mail is recorded, and
there will be a response, I'm told. It's much less likely to fall through
the cracks.

MIS keep track of problems that come into this e-mail address so that they
can see trends. If it is a single batch of bad carts, this might help them
spot and correct the problem.

So, far they have not shipped any of the carts they've loaded themselves.
So, these would be carts that the contractor filled.

MIS is good about replacing cartridges that don't seem to work.

With respect to compatibility, Eboni and dye don't mix well. Large format
printers are definitely supposed to be flushed before switching. It was
originally thought that the desktop units have so little ink in the heads
that flushing would not be needed. I went straight from OEM dye to pigments
and was OK, but I did find that I had to rinse the parking pads. Otherwise
the dye and Eboni apparently formed junk on the pads that was then picked up
by the head over night.

Keep track of where the clogs are.

If it is the same jet all the time, that jet may be clogged.

If it is the same color but different jets, it may be foam or air.

With the bad carts I was fighting, it seemed like one cart would always be
bad with respect to one color, but then the next cart would be bad with
respect to another color.

Ultimately, the little screens in the heads can become clogged. Dyes might
get through, and just after cleaning the system by putting in a dye cart,
the pigments might get through a little, but the problem will soon return.
The problem would always be with respect to the same color, even thought
different jets might show it.

At any rate, let MIS know of the problems.

One more thing, be sure to tell MIS the lot number on the side of the cart,
then they can identify where and when it was made.

Thansk so much for all the replies. What has me confused is that I
have been able to get to the point that I get a clean nozzle check
with both OEM and UT2 after lots of work. As soon as I print a
purge print, I get banding and the nozzle check is bad again. It is
on multiple heads. The main heads I am having trouble with are the
yellow, light cyan and light magenta. It varies from a few nozzles
to complete shut down of the heads. Thanks for any suggestions.
Will contact MIS.
