Yellow Ink and Metamerism
2005-02-07 by Louis Dina
I need the benefit of everyone's collective wisdom. I'm using the Epson UltraChrome inkset and both IJC/OPM and QTR to build profiles. I like having a totally neutral profile, along with cool, warm, sepia and selenium profiles. I have heard here and there (though I have not confirmed this) that the Epson Yellow pigment inks tend to cause more metamerism (and perhaps more bronzing as well) than most of the other inks. My main concern is metamerism when viewing prints under different lighting conditions. It seems many of the QTR profiles use only K, LK, LC and LM to build the neutral and cool profiles. They also use only K and LK to build warm profiles, with Yellow being reserved only for sepia profiles, where yellow is unavoidable. Anybody have direct experience or recommendations? I'd appreciate any insights or links to in depth information. I want to get the best our current tools have to offer, using the UC inkset for now. Lou
