Digital BW, The Print

I was asked to sign one of my b/w prints, it was on hahnemuhle photo rag 308gsm media. 
The HB pencil I used felt like a 10h (nail), and I ruined the look with a very scratchy 
signature.

Which pencil?... 2b, 4b, 6b?

I use 4B.. And rub it a bit so it isn't totally sharp. Light touch, small
sig.
