BO Question

BO Question

2005-02-14 by scott_now_coming

Since there's a lot of interest in BO printing,

wouldn't it be easy for someone to write a program to use with Epson
printers for BO printing.

I know NOTHING about programing, but it seems like it would be easy
for a knowledgable programer to do.

With IJC, QTR, IP and yadda, yadda, yadda,... I'm suprised no one has
written a program for BO printing.

If anyone here can do this, I would be MORE than Happy to beta test
it.

I have an Epson R800 and a C86.

Hello Scott,

Ther is an excellent website by one of the group members devoted
entirely to Black Only printing. It's located at this IP address and
is the definitive work on BO printing if ever there was one.

Yes, Clayton is the one who got me interested in BO printing.

I guess I should have worded my question differently:

Why couldn't some one write a program to do BO printing on an Epson
that didn't have "Black Only" as an option in it's drive.

For example, the R800 ,and I understand, the new R1800 won't
have "BO" as an option (unless Epson changes that from the Japaneese
version).

Re: BO Question

Exploring with the same Black Only and QTRgui TIFFs on Epson Enhanced
Matte, I've found distinct positives and negatives for each:

Some otherwise-identical Black-Only files can actually print sharper
(under a lupe) than QTRgui prints (not just SEEM sharper due to
contrast) ...presumably has to do with softening from the gamut.

On the other hand, tiny (maybe under 1mm) imperfections occur at the
grain/dot level in B-O...not noticed initially in 9" prints, perhaps
not a concern in many types of images, but easily seen in even tones
such as skin if you pause and look closely.

Won't turn me away from B-O, some kinds of images do look better in
B-O...but I wouldn't use it exclusively because I sometimes want a
different tone.
