Printing in Register
2005-02-15 by Peter Gorwin
I know that Dan Burkholder makes images that are ultra-chrome combined with Plat/Pallad printing in registration with one another. He employs digital inter-negatives processed through a service bureau or printed on an inkjet using Pictorico OHP transaprency material. (www.pictorico.com) You might want to consult his website, (www.danburkholder.com) for some ideas regarding printing another image using alternative processes registered over archival ink in order to gain greater D-Max. His process involves a fascinating hybrid of ink with an alternative process. Nonetheless, his work doesn't include a double pass process whereby paper is fed twice through the printer. Peter Gorwin In View Camera Magazine ( www.viewcamera.com ) Craig Blacklock explains "double-pass quadtone printing." . . . If this can be managed with subtlety in a common desktop printer like 2200, using Photoshop on conventional images it should increase Dmax tremendously and make these printers much more impressive.
