2200 Ink Configuration

2200 Ink Configuration

2005-02-25 by nsapc

I am relatively new to B & W printing with a 2200 on EEM paper using
Epson inks. What are the pro's and con's (if any) of using an
increased color density on the "Ink Config" setting and what
are recommended settings?

The bottom line is you are not going to get decent prints with the UC inks
and the Epson driver. You need to step up to another driver or "RIP". QTR
is the most cost effective solution out there and a good place to start.
Installation is easy and their are a number of "curves" provided including
for EEM and the UC inks. Well worth the time and effort and forget about
messing with the controls in the Epson driver. QTR is here:

The other easy alternative (and free) is "black only" printing. Select
"Black" in the Epson driver and it prints using just the black ink. The
issue with this is that you are stuck with the hue of the black ink you are
using - in this case Epson MK.

Beyond these there are a myriad of alternatives at various prices. Try
"black only" and if you don't like the results then move up to QTR.

Have fun.

Steve is right, Black Only is worth a try because it's very easy and
inexpensive and you aren't committing to anything. You can try other
things at any time. If you use Eboni black ink (sold by MIS) you'll
get even better looking results than with the Epson ink (cooler color
tone for one thing). There is more information about this at the web
link below. It's a great way to get started and the 2200 is a good
choice. It will produce excellent results.

Regards,
Clayton
