C84 paper feed problem

C84 paper feed problem

2005-03-21 by sandersm@aol.com

Has anyone encountered probblems with paper feed in the C84? I've been trying
to run the Costco/Kirkland gloss paper through mine and it won't go. Either
the paper doesn't drop into the printer at all, or else it drops just short
of where the rollers grab it and feed it through the printer. I tried to help
by pushing down on the top edge of the paper, to no avail. I followed with
a sheet of EEM and got the same problem. Suggestions?

A loading sheet made from .25inch corrugated plastic- bought from a stationery shop.
Cut it just under the papers size

I had a C84 that croaked after less than 12 months of fairly heavy use
(~1-2,000 prints, almost all 8.5x11 size, using an MIS CFS with EZ inks)
and the symptom was failure to feed paper properly. Like you've
experienced, it just wouldn't pick up the next sheet most of the time.
I used EEM almost exclusively.

After talking to Epson on the phone and walking through some diagnostic
stuff (same things I'd tried, but they wanted the results after they'd
given the instructions) they replaced the printer under warranty,
although if it had been out of warranty the printer was cheap enough
that I would have felt I got good value out of it. I got two of the
printers for an average cost under $50 each, so even if the printer only
made 1,000 prints, that's only $0.05/print for hardware cost. Compared
to the cost of ink and paper, I viewed that as insignificant.

I hope your problem is something different, but FWIW this was my experience.

Cheers,
Kip
