They are about 650DM (about 280US $) plus shipping. If this is significantly
less than there, I can give you an adress where to buy.

I called MIS today and ordered 4 bottles of VM inks, I will simply try them
out on my current 1160 - if I like it I can see if I get an additional 1290,
but if the cooler curves are pretty much the same as the FS, why go on with
those? In this case the VM set just gives you greater freedom :-)

I am waiting curiosly...

Paul, Bernhard,
under Windows ME it was possible to run the 1290 with the 1280
driver. Using Paul\ufffds curves. I got prints in "piezo-quality" (16 bit
file, 2880dpi printing possible).
Meanwhile I switched to WinXP. Now I can\ufffdt run the 1290 with an
1280 driver any longer. As there is no German 1290 WinXP driver
available yet, I downloaded an English 1290 WinXP driver from
the www.Epson.co.uk site.
this combo works, but my 1290 prints became rather flat now
and with my old monitor settings I have no WYSIWIP any longer.
Have to calibrate the system again (using a custom dot gain
curve), but have not finished it so far. So my results are
preliminary.
Bernd
PS:
Bernhard, if you buy an 1290 with MIS VM HEX there will probably
be no need for an 1160 with MIS FS any longer.

Hi I'm new here,

Presentation:
Bo Wrangborg - Sweden - now entering the arena och Quad(Hex) BW-
printing . 55 years old - amateur since the late fifties!
Hobby- darkroomer/photographer. Now getting into the the new
era - with a "digital eye"! (Ok been experimenting since february
- than buying looots of stuuff! It's expensiv and its fun!
Lets have fun!
Filmscanner 4000 dpi, Flatbed Epson 1200 photo waiting for my Epson
2450, Haselblad MF, pentax 35 mm, computer - colourspider, etc etc
but who cares!

OK!
I also ordered VM-ink from MIS - yesterday!
I also have an 1290 Epson as mensioned in the inlay before mine
- that now appears not to be incompatible with the US-modell...1280??

Softwareproblems??

I just installed Win-XP and noticed that the library
x:\windows\system\COLOR - IS MISSING - isn't it here that old
Windows/photoshop etc had it's colorprofiles....shall I make a new
one here! It make sence thinking after? Hmmm... or is there
a "LINUX" -way of doing it - by eqvivalate liberaries with different
names - hmmm. It's still windows - I bet I can't! (Help...or??).
I have not had the time yet to create that directory - but Photoshop
schould really need it I think - OK making some modification to the
windows register ... hmmm...

OK - it for helping myself getting use for the VM-inks when they
arrive - for my 1290 Epsy.
Hey, I don't like this if windows XP is changing it's structure...
I might be wrong - but I have heard NT4-people have difficulties
running ICC properly in that OP-system - is XP the same?

OK - I might be out in the blue - however I throu that question out
in this group!

Does VM-inks work with Win 98SE??? It did with Win-ME so why not?
Then dual boot for me! I'm certainly not installing Win Me (Swedish
version anyhow - since we have had lot of trouble here with that one -
me included...many nights to try that one for me - will not repeat
that!)

Anyhow - this was my first inlay - and I might be all wrong here!
Am I?

Hi - perhaps a bit out of digitalBW - however IT must work?

one more thing about win-xp and the quad - system....
I have it confirmed - The ColorVision Spyder - is incompatible with
Win XP. Had an answer from them - stating that they are "working on
IT"! I didn't work in NT4 either - they had time to work on it -
however now NT4 is soon leaving the arena - a new Spyder is released
in some weeks (that can handle LCD's as well) Out with XP for now!? -
How can one work with quads without a calibrated monitor and OS that
gives questions about colorhandling?

As I'm doing color as well - hmmm - let the youngsters do the work
until SP3 is here and the Spyder works!

Sorry, you might allready now this - but it was a surprice for me...
But it might be to help for someone going into this with a new OS -
with all what that means...

Back to basics!

Look for prices over ther for a 1280 Epsy instead of an European 1290
and a 110-->220 Volt transformer? Anyone out there who
have "rechipped" an 1290 to 1280?
I want to do Quad!

Anyone have got a solution (exept for bying an EZcolorequipmen)to
tweak XP - so I can use MIS VM-quad and a 1290 Epsy?
Win 98Se - that is max 512 meg memory! but working!

Back to work!

Bernd,

When I read your post I got curious and decided to see if I could achieve
what you need. I have no reason to use a 1280 driver with my 1290 but I
wanted to see if I could anyway.

I have found that I can use the 1280 XP driver for my 1290 under WinXP
without a problem, as long as the 1280 Status Monitor is not installed. My
1290 is connected via USB, if that makes a difference.

I currently have both the 1280 and 1290 (English) drivers installed for my
1290. They appear as if they are two different printers and I can choose
which "printer" to print to.

As I mentioned, the 1280 status monitor causes a problem if it tries to
monitor a 1290, so it is not currently installed. This means that the ink
levels are not shown from within the 1280 driver either before or during
printing. This isn't a problem as the 1290 driver and status monitor still
work fine.

I hope this is useful, and if you would like any details about how I
achieved this just ask and I'll supply them either on or off the list.

Cheers,

Graham
