Edward,
I use a 2200 with Ut7 inks. I print exclusively on matte papers, so I'm using
their Eboni Black ink. Eboni black ink also prints totally neutral on Black
Ink Only mode. Recently I took a file to a friend of mine who uses ImagePrint
to see how it might match a print I was happy with on the Ut7 inks. ImagePrint
made an identical print. The UT7 print was set for a neutral tone just like
the ImagePrint print. Both were identical in tone. I have a 2200 with MIS's
Ultrachrome equivalent and another 2200 with MIS UT7 inks. I think it is the
ultimate setup. But I must say I am really impressed with ImagePrint. The
advantage of course being one printer instead of two.
Steve

"I have a 2200 with MIS's
Ultrachrome equivalent ..."

I'm assuming you print color photos with this printer.

What do you think of the MIS UC equivalent inks and did you have a
cutom profile made?

Thanks,

Scott

I also print with these. The colors match the original inks very closely
except for the reds which are too weak, leaning towards orange. I had a
custom profile made which fixed the problem nicely.

I'm using the inks with Eboni on EEM and Photo Rag, so I can't say what
the performance is like on glossy papers.

Your experience is helpful to me in my decision. While Imageprint is
an option I will keep in mind, I think for now that I will try the
MIS ink set in the 2200 and use the C86 for color, since at least 98%
of my work is b&w. I understand that the MIS set for the 2200 has
five tones of black (grey) as opposed to four for the C86. Thanks,

Scott,
I think MIS's Ultrachrome equivalent inks are better than Epson's. I need to
qualify that though. I'm using their Eboni Black Ink and I only print on Matte
papers. This setup with Eboni black ink gives me a better print than Epson's
ink. The other advantage is that Eboni prints in Black & White with a dead
neutral tone on Black ink only. I have had all of the systems over the years and
this is truly the best. I also love the Continuous ink system from MIS on the
2200. You have to fire the unit up every three days or so, even if you don't
plan on printing. The short cleaning cycle on fire up every three days will
keep the nozzles clean.

RC paper printing is fine. I find the magentas (both M and LM) tend to clog
a lot. Just spent the afternoon cleaning my printer including the print
head posts. But buy PKN and not PK. You might also think about LKN rather
than LK. Reprofiling is a necessity.

Steve,

Are you using it in a 2200 or 1280?

I have the R800. That printer doesn't use the "light" inks.

I have the 2100. I think the post that I was responding to mentioned using
the MIS UC equivs on a 21/2200 but couldn't attest to their quality on
"photo" paper, hence my respons. There is a completely different ink set
from MIS for the R800/1800.
