Paper found with surface like darkroom air-dried fiber glossy

Paper found with surface like darkroom air-dried fiber glossy

2005-03-27 by Scott Jones

For traditional darkroom workers, that air-dried glossy fiber paper
surface has always held a special appeal. The d-max is great and the
gloss subtle (creamy) without the sparkles of, say, Epson luster or
semi-gloss. I have never found anything like it in the inkjet papers
that I have seen until I ran across something quite by accident while
investigating another product.

Pictorico seems to have a product called Premium Photo Glossy Paper
(NOT their Photo Gallery Glossy Paper which is high mirror-like
glossy and very similar to Epson glossy). I just ran a print and
compared side by side with darkroom produced air-dried Ilfold
Multigrade IV glossy and the sheen and surface are almost identical.
I was amazed. (I have no connection with this company of any kind).

Has anybody had any experience with this paper or have any coments???

Cheers.

Scott-

You are right on. I use it with Image Print and with their free
profiles and think it is the best paper made....but it only comes in
destop sizes... if I could get a 17" roll, I would use it exclusively,
but it doesn't make sense to use a paper that you cannot use for all
prints...at least for me.

cheers,

Tom O'Connell

[Digital BW] Re: Paper found with surface like darkroom air-dried fiber glossy

Do you guys know if you can actually sell prints done on this Pictorico gloss paper? I mean
will we have any reason to belive it will last? If so I'm going to check it out. I assume you
have to use photo black with Ultrachrome. Epson used to make this paper called Glossy
Paper Photo weight, and it looke like this. Only that media was not archival according to
Epson and it scratched like hell. I've been looking for a replacement ever since.

John
